Behavioural Self Compassion
Sometimes we need to intentionally close a wide open that's huge with feeling and disengage with whatever is causing us distress. This is not avoidance, rather it's mindful and skilful understanding of our own threshold for dealing with difficulty or change.
Our threshold can change daily depending on what other issues we are handling that may increase our stress or overwhelm and affect our tolerance.
In being intentional about the "closing" we put it out that, yes, there is pain or hurt there, yet in this moment we can no longer explore these feelings. We need to mindfully offer ourselves a different kind of support.
And that's where we can opt of behavioural self compassion.
When you feel you hit your threshold, ask yourself, "what do you need..... to feel safe?"
Your mind would tell you the answer, you would just have to make your body do that.
