IPL Auction Tactic

As it's the days for the Indian Premier League player auction. The craze in every Indian's mind has skyrocketed with the thought of having top players in the teams they support. And it's only natural. While we, the audience, watch the telecast of the auction and get crazy about it, the team management of the teams across the roster of IPL have to do their homework and brainstorming about the players and ultimately the team they want being in limit to their purse set by IPL authorities.

And today, I'll tell you about a way one team's management empties another team's wallet/purse.

Suppose you and I have Rs. 20 in your wallet to make a 5 member squad. Now, the auctioneer calls out X name of a player, who has done tremendously well in his last outing of IPL and other tournaments. You already give out Rs. 1 for him, and simultaneously, I give out Rs. 2. Just like that, slowly, we increase the price to the range of Rs. 8 given by you. Now, here's the catch of how I can empty your wallet and restrict you from taking more players. Out of the wallet of Rs. 20, you've decided to give Rs. 8 for the player, and now I'd aggressively give out Rs. 9. This would create a long thought process of confirming the buy of the player. Now, after I set Rs. 9, you'd think is the player really worth and is good enough to get in the team. And you give out Rs. 10 for him. Now, observe that out of Rs. 20 you've given out Rs. 10 for a SINGLE player, which leaves you with another half of Rs. 10 to choose 4 members for your five member squad. I, as a team manager, observes this and was planning on it, call it quits on the race to acquire this player, and save my money for other players.

Now, you only have Rs. 10 for 4 members, while I have Rs. 20 for 5 members. I have the upper hand, here.
